VIDEO: Death investigation for a possible homicide in the 1000 block of North Wilshire Lane in Arlington Heights.

UPDATE: Suspect in custody after police pursuit from Harper College to Route 72 and Van Buren in East Dundee, Illinois.

Arlington Heights police were on the scene of a death investigation in the 1000 block of North Wilshire Lane with the case reported opening about 8:45 a.m. Thursday. A search was underway for a person of interest in the investigation. Police were looking for a tan or green Lincoln Mercury Marquis driven by a 19-year-old male that was last seen heading southbound from the 1000 block of North Wilshire.

Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics were also called initially to the scene, but left the scene when the case was determined to be a death investigation.

Detectives were on the scene early … then later, about 11:00 a.m., the Major Cases Assistance Team arrived on the scene on Wilshire Lane. Police locally and statewide were alerted to the Mercury Marquis vehicle description and suspect information. An unmarked Schaumburg police squad discovered the vehicle matching the description about 9:30 a.m. Thursday near Algonquin Road and Roselle Road, and followed the vehicle until marked police squads closed in on the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect drove north on Roselle Road and turned into the Harper College campuse. The suspect drove north on the east side of Harper College campus and was later reported to be heading south on Roselle Road.

Palatine police responded to Harper College, and Harper College police were notified, but neither agency participated in the pursuit as it headed westbound on Algonquin Road out of their jurisdictions.

Next, police in pursuit of the vehicle were traveling only about 7 mph westbound on Algonquin Road (Route 62). Hoffman Estates police got in front of the vehicle while traveling in the same direction as the suspect’s vehicle. At Barrington Road, the suspect rammed a Hoffman Estates police squad and the speed of the pursuit increased to 45-55 mph and continued westbound on Algonquin Road. The chase eventually continued southbound on Route 25, westbound on Route 72 from Route 25, and westbound Route 72 approaching the Fox River. As the vehicle approached Van Buren in East Dundee Road it was reported to have a tire going flat and smoking. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect, found in the pale green Mercury Marquis was taken into custody near Van Buren and eastbound Williams Place at 10:00 a.m.

The Major Case Assistance Team investigators were canvassing neighborhood residents and some donned in suits that prevent crime scene contamination were carefully investigating the backyard with a video camera.

The entire block of Wilshire from Oakton to Frederick was blocked to street traffic by police squads. Over ten marked and unmarked police squads lined the block. A smaller perimeter was blocked with yellow POLICE LINE tape around the street in front of the crime scene house, and a smaller perimeter on the perimeter was blocked by red CRIME SCENE tape.
