Wire Money Request Halted: Grandparent Scam Attempt Over Telephone Reported

Recently Arlington Heights police received a report of a suspicious phone call from a male offender. The offender called an elderly female victim that lives in Arlington Heights and identified himself as Thomas Gooch. He explained her grandson had been arrested by the Beaver Bay Police Department in Canada and she needed to wire $5,600 for bond. The funds were to be wired to San Diego. The victim went to Western Union to wire the money, but the Western Union clerk explained that the whole incident was a scam and no funds were sent.
