Auto Theft Via Fake Wire Transfer at Prestige Auto Leasing

Buffalo Grove police received a report of a motor vehicle theft at Prestige Auto Leasing, 88 East Dundee Road.

Dealer reported that a vehicle was delivered to a customer and a wire transfer was sent for payment. It was later determined that the wire transfer was fake. The customer then claimed a check was sent via UPS and when the dealer checked the tracking number found that it did not exist. The dealer then sent a FedEx shipping label to the customer who never used it. The vehicle was entered into LEADS as stolen.

The crime unfolded over a period of January 7, 2011 and January 20, 2011.
