VIDEO: Star Cinema Grill — How it Works.

Downtown Arlington Heights will soon have an upgrade to its reputation as a premiere dining location in Chicagoland — the introduction of a full menu bar and gill in a movie theater.

The village of Arlington Heights and property managers LNR Partners Friday announced today a deal for Houston-based Star Cinema Grill to locate in the former Arlington Theaters. The new theater is expected to employ up to 120 local residents during peak summer months. The number of theater screens will remain at six, but the number of seats will fall from 1,600 to 700.

In Texas, Star Cinema Grill uses Sony 4K digital technology to project motion pictures. Sony 4K resolution is 4096×2160 or 8.8 megapixels, compared to the highest HD television resolution, which is 1920×1080 or approximately 2.1 megapixels. A digital movie can be distributed via hard drives, the Internet, dedicated satellite links or optical disks such as DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. The requirement to upgrade to digital equipment at Arlington Theaters in order to display first-run movies was a requirement that was cost prohibitive to the former management at Arlington Theaters.

At Star Cinema Grill, children under 3 are not admitted, and children 3 to 5 are admitted only to rated G and select PG movies. All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. All guests purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages must be at least 21 years of age and must present a valid government issued ID.

Star Cinema Grill is a Houston based dine-in-theater concept that offers their guests first run film releases, an extensive menu, and a full service bar with a wide selection of beer, wine and spirits. Food and beverages are served seat side as guest enjoy first run movies. Star Cinema Grill’s distinction is their overall goal to provide their guests with an unforgettable experience through unmatched service, the highest quality food and beverage and a flawless film presentation. Star Cinema Grill currently operates three locations in Texas in Webster, Texas, Missouri, Texas, and Conroe, Texas.

LNR Partners entered into the lease agreement with Star Cinema Grill on behalf of the lending trust which took control of the property after the prior owners of Arlington Town Square were unable to live up to terms of its loan. Edgemark Commercial Real Estate, which was retained to serve as the day-to-day manager and leasing agent of the center, handled the lease negotiations on behalf of LNR.

According to the Village of Arlington Heights website, the next few months will involve Star Cinema Grill and LNR Partners working with the Village of Arlington Heights to secure the necessary Special Use approval for the restaurant, Liquor License, and other requisite permits. Star Cinema Grill will then begin remodeling the Theater, introducing new seating, décor, a full kitchen, and a state of the art digital entertainment system.

The theaters in Texas also feature hosted events, including Business Meetings/Training Seminars, Sales Presentations, Birthday Parties, Award Presentations, School Outings, Church Functions, Televised Events (not including Pay Per View event).

  1. What a sad statement that the village and management companies sold out to greedy corporate franchise !! It is a shame they don’t go by their motto of hometown neighbors and didn’t support the d theater and owner ? Who also shared with locally owned restaurants for dinner and a movie nights to KEEP IT LOCAL !! Not anymore …. And all he did to promote the village and neighboring businesses too. Shame on the village for allowing this to happen !

  2. I’m usually the guy who gets seated next to the idiot with the Subway sandwich on almost every flight so i probably would never see a movie there with the same guy sitting next to me. I am glad to see it reopening though.

  3. I go to the movies to see a movie. I go to a restaurant for dinner out. I do not like the combination of movie and dinner and drinks. It is distracting. I’m old school…popcorn, milkduds and a coke are sufficient.

  4. I don’t see how eating a pizza in a theater qualifies as an “upgrade” to the dining experience in AH. We’ve got an amazing selection of quality restaurants across a wide choice of ethnic cuisines. Just off hand I’m most familiar with Ttowa, Bangkok Cafe, Francesca’s Tavola, Magos, Salsa 17, Penang, Chef Pinq, Mitsuwa court…

And what the heck is this? “All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.” This is not going to be the place where I drop off my 15 and her friends for a show. I guess Randhurst theater will be our choice for that.

It’s great that AH found a tenant but it doesn’t look like the kind of place that fits our family’s entertainment choices.
