Shooting and Crash Closes Northbound I-57 Near 115th St, Chicago

Illinois State Police, Chicago Police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 2:46 a.m. Monday to a report of a person shot on I-57 near 111th Street. Initially the location was given as outbound I-57 at 111th Street.

Engine 120’s crew found the shooting incident on inbound I-57 closer to 115th Street about 2:56 a.m. and reported “cars all over the place” with IDOT closing all lanes. Engine 120’s crew from the Morgan Park neighborhood immediately called for a second ambulance.

Illinois State Police report they had initially responded about 2:45 a.m. Memorial Day to a report of a two-vehicle crash with shots fired in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 115th Street.

Two men were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they were listed in serious-to-critical condition. At least one person was suffering from a gunshot wound, but there were initial reports that a second person was also shot. Initially there was no official confirmation that there was a second gunshot victim.

Two other people were transported to Roseland Community Hospital, where they were listed in good condition. Apparently the injuries in the patients transported to Roseland were caused by the crash.

At the time of this report, it is unknown whether the shots were fired before or after the crash.
