VIDEO: Harrison Ford’s Runway Miss and Taxiway Landing; Confused Audio at Beginning of Flight

A small yellow plane that sources say was piloted by Harrison Ford can be seen in the video darting over a jetliner and landing on an airport taxiway, instead of its intended runway at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

Video released this week shows a plane piloted by Harrison Ford flying solo and low over an American Airlines passenger jet with 110 people aboard at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, near Santa Anna and Irvine, California.

An American Airlines Boeing 737 was taxiing perpendicular to Harrison Ford’s approach path. Ford’s yellow, single-engine Aviat Husky, on a mistaken approach from the northeast, passed over the passenger jet and cast a shadow on the fuselage of American Airlines Flight 1456 with 110 passengers and six crew members aboard.

After landing Harrison, Ford asked the control tower, “Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?”

John Wayne airport only has two runways — a larger 5700-foot Runway 2L/20R, and a smaller 2900-foot runway 2R/20L. The two runways are oriented parallel to each other. Ford was cleared to land on the smaller Runway 20L, but landed on the parallel taxiway (C) to the left and between Runway 20L and the airport terminal. The taxiway is about half as wide as the runway with a big white “20L” marking on the pavement. The smaller runway where Harrison Ford was supposed to land is about half as wide as the larger runway, which has a big white “20R” marking on the pavement at the end of the runway.

The FAA is investigating Harrison Ford’s incident, which could result in the loss of his pilot’s license, or could just result in a written reprimand.

Ford was injured in March 2015 when he crash-landed his World War II-era trainer with an engine failure onto a Los Angeles golf course — Penmar Golf Course.
