#ad▼

President Obama commuted the sentences of 111 more federal inmates Tuesday, capping a month in which he’s nearly doubled the number of commutations granted during his presidency.

President Barack Obama has issued the most commutations in one day since President Franklin Roosevelt issued 151 commutations on July 26, 1935.

In the course of his presidency, Obama has issued his his clemency power more often than any president since Calvin Coolidge.

There is a difference between a commutation and a pardon. A commutation reduces a prisoner’s sentence, while a pardon absolves the person completely.

President Obama has commuted the sentences of more men and women than the past nine presidents combined.
