Cherries and Beer Hops Are Growing Like Crazy in Traverse City, Michigan

#ad▼

ABC’s Ginger Zee heads home to Michigan where cherries are thriving and hops are booming.

Traverse City at the 45th parallel is the largest producer of tart cherries in the United States.

Cherries are very susceptible to wind damage, hail damage, and frost, but this season looks promising. The average bloom time is about 7 days. The global warming trend is moving up the start of cherry season earlier in the year, and the growing season is longer.

Hops are on the return in Michigan. Hops can grow up to 12 inches on a hot day.
