Amarillo Police Respond to Report of an Armed Subject with 1 Employee Held Hostage at Walmart at Georgia and Canyon Drive

Amarillo (Texas) police responded about 11:13 a.m. Tuesday morning to an active shooter and hostage situation the Walmart store at Georgia and Canyon Drive (4215 Canyon Drive) near I-27 in Amarillo, Texas.

The city’s Twitter account warned civilians to avoid the local Walmart due to an active shooter incident. Amarillo police confirmed there is one offender with a gun holding at least one hostage at the Walmart. The incident is being classified as a workplace violence/hostage situation.

At 12:18 p.m. Amarillo police reported there are no confirmed gunshot victims at Walmart, and that there was no ongoing shooting.

A Potter County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher told the Daily News the incident is classified a hostage situation.

Earlier witness said one store employee took another employee hostage.
