Authorities believe a West Allis homicide, a church threat and a freeway shooting on I-90/94 are all related.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man accused of the I-90/94 killing Buffalo Grove, Illinois mother of two, Tracy Czaczkowski, as Zachary Hays of West Allis, Wisconsin. The 20-year-old male is a resident of West Allis, Wisconsin, who fled from the Czaczkowski shooting near Lake Delton and Baraboo eastbound on I-90/94, and was shot after his Chevy Blazer was stopped by spike strips near DeForest, Wisconsin. The suspect got out of his Blazer and displayed a handgun. He was shot by Columbia County sheriff’s deputies after refusing to drop his gun. Zachary Hays of West Allis is in the hospital Tuesday with apparent non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by the sheriff’s deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office said multiple counties are working together to determine what charges he will face.
Hays is also suspected of killing 42-year-old Gabriel Sanchez in a West Allis apartment Sunday morning before shooting and killing 44-year-old Tracy Czaczkowski in the drive-by shooting on I-90/94 near Sauk County.

Hays’ brother 30-year-old Jeremy is facing a tentative charge of a “Felon in possession of a firearm.”

His other 34-year-old brother was also arrested following the drive-by shooting, but authorities are not releasing his name because he has a cognitive disability.

Police are urging any information about the Interstate 90/94 shooting to please call Dane County Sheriff’s Office at the tip line at (608) 284-6900.
