Veterans Ceramic Poppies Honor Fallen in UK for Armistice Day, US Celebrates Veterans Day

A final ceramic poppy was planted by a 13-year-old cadet at the Tower of London on Tuesday to mark Armistice Day in the UK. The installation, called “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red”, is made up of 888,246 ceramic poppies.

Armistice Day, which coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, is commemorated every year on November 11 to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France. The cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I took effect at 11:00 a.m. — “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918.
