DJI Feats: Eruption at Bardabunga Volcano (montage).

Bardarbunga (Bárðarbunga), is a stratovolcano and is the second highest mountain in Iceland — 6,591 ft above sea level, Bárðarbunga is also part of a volcanic system that is approximately 200 120 miles long and 25 16 miles wide. The volcano is located under Vatnajökull, Iceland’s most extensive glacier. Vatnajökull is also known as the Vatna Glacier, is the largest and most voluminous Icelandic glacier, and one of the largest in area in Europe. It is located in the south-east of the island, covering more than 8 percent of the country.

The volcanic eruptions are associated with swarms of thousands of earthquakes. From the middle of August 2014 to the middle of September 2014 about 25,000 earthquakes were measured. Usually there are 10,000 to 15,000 earthquakes per year.

Drone manufacturer DJI captured unique video high above Iceland’s Bardarbunga volcano, showing the active eruption and massive lava flows cascading down the remote mountain.

DJI’s first video in a series called “DJI Feats” takes you to the remote wilderness of an erupting Icelandic volcano, where Phantom 2 quadcopters are used to capture viewpoints of an exploding magma caldera too dangerous to be approached by manned aircraft.
