The fourth recent victim of radical Islamic terrorists has been executed by beheading, according to the website of terrorism watchdog group SITE Intelligence Group. SITE Intelligence Group distributed a video by Jund al-Khilafah Wednesday announcing the death of Herve Gourdel.
A group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah warned Sunday after abducting Herve Gourdel that he would be killed within 24 hours unless France ended its airstrikes against Islamic State fighters in Iraq. The Algerian extremists allied with the Islamic State group followed up by decapitating French hostage Herve Gourdel after France ignored the demand to stop airstrikes in Iraq, according to the video released by SITE Intelligence Group.
The video with a stark desert background resembled three previous videos showing the beheadings of two American journalists and a British aid worker in recent weeks. The fourth video showed French President Francois Hollande, instead of President Barack Obama.
France was the first country to join the U.S. military campaign against the Islamic State fighters in Iraq when it started airstrikes in Iraq on Friday. A major air assault involving the United States and only five Arab countries — Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain and Qatar – began 1230 UT Tuesday in Syria.
