The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2026, to a report of shots fired in the block of 1200 Sunnyside Court in Round Lake Beach. Upon arrival, police officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the roadway. Paramedics from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District transported the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased.
The deceased was identified as 31-year-old Kevin Rodriguez-Ruiz of Round Lake Park. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital. On Monday, July 20, 2026, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Rodriguez-Ruiz died from multiple gunshot wounds.
During the investigation, Round Lake Beach Police Department detectives identified a suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting. The investigation involved multiple interviews with witness, and the recovery of numerous items of digital, physical, and firearm-related evidence.
The suspect was taken into custody by Illinois State Police Troop 10 troopers about 3:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026 on I-57 far southern Illinois. Illinois State Police Troop 10 covers the southern tip of Illinois near the Illinois border with Missouri and Kentucky.
The results of the investigation were reviewed with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office and the following charges were approved for Juan U. Lopez-Aguayo, age 26, of Round Lake Beach …
