Severe thunderstorm cells were indicated by radar mostly south of Arlington Heights, and caused the activation of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Thursday night.
Otherwise radar indicates precipitation as a line of moderate thunderstorms moving west to east with storm cells within the line moving southwest to northeast. The most intense lightning appeared to pass south of Arlington Heights.

This storm would mostly affect southern parts of Arlington Heights … NWS locations affected as Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Wheaton, Hoffman Estates, Glenview, Elmhurst, Lombard, Bartlett, Ohare Airport, Streamwood, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Wheeling, Park Ridge, Addison, Glendale Heights, Elk Grove Village, Glen Ellyn, West Chicago, Melrose Park, Franklin Park, Rolling Meadows, and Roselle.
The thunderstorm line that caused the closure of Thursday night’s Frontier Days and the Drone Show developed suddenly about 7:30 p.m. as a line just west of DeKalb, Crystal Lake, and Kenosha. A second line developed just ahead of the first line beginning in St Charles about 8:00 p.m., and then formed the second line consisting of storm cells in St. Charles, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Glenview, and Evanston by 8:30 p.m.
A moderate thundershower peaked in Arlington Heights from about 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., causing the cancellation of the Village of Arlington Heights drone show scheduled at 9:35 p.m. Then a Severe Thunderstorm Warming that included Arlington Heights was activated at 9:44 p.m.
