Illinois State Police and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine and Arlington Heights responded about 10:22 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 to a report of a pedestrian down in the northbound lanes of Route 53 between Dundee Road and Lake Cook Road,
There were two vehicles stopped and a person rolling around on the ground on the Route 53 Spur northbound lanes. Illinois State Police troopers and firefighters from Palatine shut down northbound Route 53. Arlington Heights police shut down the on-ramp from westbound Dundee Road to northbound Route 53. Traffic on Route 53 was at a standstill.
Illinois State Police on the scene were investigating a hit-and-run and a possible battery at this scene. The victim that was hit was a pedestrian who was outside his vehicle on the Route 53 Spur. The victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Illinois State Police requested northbound Route 53 be re-opened at Dundee Road at 11:07 a.m.
