Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:20 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2026 to a report of a crash with injuries and a vehicle fire on Wilke Road south of Campbell Street in Arlington Heights. Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a black Jeep Wrangler with severe damage, on fire in the curb lane and northbound lane of Wilke Road south of Campbell Street. The driver was already out of the vehicle with serious injuries. The other vehicle involved in the crash was a white sedan.
The driver of the Jeep was reported to have been rescued by passers-by that stopped to help, while the motorist in the white sedan that was hit by the Jeep, ran into a medical office building to look for a fire extinguisher. The motorist from the white sedan, who did not initially report any injuries, came out with a fire extinguisher and knocked the fire back with the fire extinguisher. The fire was then completely extinguished by firefighters with a hose line.

The crash victim driving the black Jeep was treated by Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics and transported to an undisclosed hospital. A cervical collar was applied to the victim, and although he appeared to be seriously injured, the extent of his injuries were unknown.
According to the driver of the white sedan, the driver of the black Jeep Wrangler was northbound in the left, northbound lane of Wilke Road, while he was driving his white sedan northbound in the right, northbound lane. There was another vehicle in front of the Jeep Wrangler in the left lane when the driver of the Jeep Wrangler attempted to squeeze through a gap between the vehicle in the left lane and his white sedan in the right lane. When the driver of the Jeep Wrangler cut over to the right lane, the right-rear of the Jeep Wrangler struck the front-left of the white sedan. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler lost control of his vehicle, and the Jeep Wrangler spun around and hit a light pole, and smashed head-on into a tree in the parkway on the northbound side of Wilke Road. The right front tire on the Jeep Wrangler flew of the wheel well and landed across Wilke Road in the southbound parkway. The white sedan came to rest next to the Jeep Wrangler. When the driver of the white sedan realized the Jeep Wrangler was on fire, he pulled up to the center median of Wilke Road to get away from the burning Jeep Wrangler, and ran in to the medical office building at 115 South Wilke Road to get a fire extinguisher.
Wilke Road was closed in both directions in the area of the crash scene for rescue, cleanup and investigation for at least a couple of hours. The Village of Arlington Heights and the Arlington Heights Police Department did not notify citizens on their official Facebook or X accounts that Wilke Road was closed in both directions.
