
Des Plaines police responded about 10:59 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026 to a report of a domestic disturbance in the block of 1700 East Oakton Street in Des Plaines. The disturbance involved a male from Mount Prospect, who forced entry in an apartment and battered a female.
Des Plaines police officers spoke with the victim, who reported that her
ex-boyfriend, John C. Alvarez-Vera, entered her apartment through a window, grabbed her by her shirt, slammed her to the ground, struck her with her phone, and broke her phone which prevented her from calling 911.
Police officers observed fresh bruising and redness on the victim. Officers located Alvarez-Vera at his residence in the block of 1000 Tamarack Drive in Mount Prospect.
He provided a conflicting account of the incident, and was arrested and transported to the Des Plaines Police Department for processing.

Criminal Damage to Property.
John Alvarez-Vera is being held at Cook County Jail Division 8 RTU. He was booked Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
