The “mega projects” tax inventive bill needed to benefit the Chicago Bears and Arlington Heights as a choice for the Chicago Bears new stadium, and that Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia says needs to be decided ASAP, is delayed again until April 7, 2026 when lawmakers are set to return to session.

Illinois lawmakers have been debating a major tax incentive, which would allow the Chicago Bears, or any developer of “mega projects” that have a more than $500 million investment, to negotiate property taxes directly with local governments for up to 40 years. The incentive is designated to keep the Chicago Bears in Illinois, and if acceptable would likely mean the Chicago Bears would build a new stadium at the former Arlington Park property in Arlington Heights.
