Cook County property owners face an important tax deadline on April 1, 2026, and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Treasurer Maria Pappas are encouraging residents to plan ahead and take advantage of available payment tools.
First Installment property tax bills for 2025 will be mailed by March 2, 2026, and will be due April 1, 2026 for nearly 1.8 million Cook County properties. The due date is a month later than usual because the Cook County government pushed lawmakers for an extension to give property owners some breathing room since the 2024 second installment bills were late due to an issue with the billing service.

First Installment 2025 collection money will be distributed to more than 2,000 local government agencies within 30 days after receipt of the funds, according to the Cook County government.
