The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning at 5:26 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 as heavy thunderstorms were in the process of dropping about 4 inches of rain in the area of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Wheeling and other northwest suburbs.

Barrington reported 8.05 inches, Crystal Lake reported 7 inches, North Barrington reported 6.96 inches, Lakes Zurich reported 6.15 inches, Cary 6.02 inches, Fox River Grove 6.00 inches, and Woodstock reported 3 inches

The precipitation for 2013 has already surpassed the precipitation in 2012 (27.54 inches vs. 26.91 inches).

Prospect Heights firefighter/paramedics were called to rescue a stranded driver at Gibbons Avenue and Hawthorne Street as Arlington Heights firefighters were busy with other flooding and downed power line emergencies in Arlington Heights.

Route 53 was flooded in both directions, just south of Dundee Road. Arlington Heights Road was closed just south of Dundee Road. Eastbound Dundee Road between Kennicott Avenue and Arlington Heights Road was also closed due to flooding at the Plaza Verde shopping center and near the intersection of Dundee Road and Arlington Heights Road.

A power line was downed and arcing about 7:30 a.m. near Arlington Heights Road and Waverly Drive. Com Ed customers were without power in several neighborhoods near Arlington Heights Road and Hintz Road. Power was also out along Dundee Road between Arlington Heights Road and Kennicott Avenue. Business were closed at Ridge Plaza — including Kohl’s, Xsport Fitness, and Harbor Freights Tool.

Flooded basements and streets were also reported along South Dunton Avenue.

Police and firefighters were busy throughout the morning responding to hazards.
