Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 1:54 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 to a report of a structure fire in the block of 200 North William Street in Mount Prospect.

Mount Prospect Fire Department Tower 13 was the first fire company on scene at 1:58 p.m., just four minutes after dispatch. Firefighters reported a detached garage heavily engulfed in fire. The fire had extended to a boat in the driveway and was beginning to impinge on the residence. The fire department response was elevated to a “Working Fire” response.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line to contain the fire and protect the home. Firefighters also encountered live electrical wires in the backyard, creating additional hazards. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes.

Due to the rapid notification from neighbors and the quick actions of responding firefighters, the fire was stopped before it could cause significant damage to the residence. Damage is estimated at approximately $75,000.

The fire remains under investigation and is believed to be accidental in nature.

The homeowners were able to evacuate the home safely and there were no reported injuries.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Arlington Heights Fire Department, Prospect Heights Fire Protection District, and Des Plaines Fire Department.

Change of quarters coverage was provided by the Glenview Fire Department, Arlington Heights Fire Department, and Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

“If it weren’t for the quick calls to 911 from neighbors and the quick response of Tower 13 and their initial actions, the house would have suffered much more damage.”
