Palatine police officers responded about 7:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026, to a report of a cell phone robbery in the area of the block of 200 West Wood Street in Palatine. The call for help indicated that a juvenile was approached and grabbed by an unknown offender, who also took the juvenile’s cellphone. The juvenile is safe, and Palatine Police Detectives are actively pursuing leads related to this incident.
Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as officers continue investigative efforts. Detectives are actively reviewing evidence, including surveillance video and other available digital imaging, as part of the ongoing investigation. The neighborhood of the crime includes Palatine Village Hall, the Palatine Park District Community Center and Gray M. Sanborn Elementary School.

Investigators are seeking information regarding a subject believed to be connected to the incident. The individual is described as a male black in his twenties with a stubble beard. Detectives were working Monday to identify and locate this individual, and at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Palatine Police Department took a person of interest into custody in connection with the reported cellphone robbery. The arrest followed a brief foot pursuit by the police officers and detectives.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Palatine Police Department.
