One Killed, One Injured in Head-on Crash on Route 22 East of Quentin Rd in Kildeer

Police from Kildeer, and firefighters and paramedics from Lake Zurich Fire Department responded about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025 to a crash with entrapment on Route 22 near Sanctuary Club Drive. Initially, the crash was reported on Route 22 near Quentin Road.

Rescuers discovered a head-on crash on Route 22 near Sanctuary Club Drive involving a Kia SUV and a BMW SUV. Route 22 was shut down in both directions by 12:55 a.m.

A 44-year-old driver in the Kia SUV, a resident of Mundelein, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, according to Kildeer Police Department.

A 29-year-old female driver of the BMW SUV, a resident of Schaumburg, was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a KIA SUV of Mundelein was heading eastbound on Route 22, and crossed into the westbound lanes of Route 22. The Kia then struck the BMW SUV vehicle that was heading westbound on Route 22 head-on.

Illinois Route 22 is a two-lane rural style highway with one lane eastbound and one lane westbound. At Sanctuary Club Drive there is a left turn lane from eastbound Route 22 to northbound Sanctuary Club Drive. Route 22 has double-yellow line median or painted wide median opposite the left turn lane near Sanctuary Club Drive. Route 22 has narrow paved shoulders. The Speed Limit on Illinois Route 22 is 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View Images captured August 2025.

Initially it was unknown whether the driver of the KIA SUV might have been impaired or might have experienced a medical emergency. Following the on-scene crash investigation gathering evidence, the crash investigation is ongoing by the Kildeer Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
