According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., roadway construction workers were retrieving construction equipment on Old McHenry Road near Prairie Wind Road, Long Grove. The crew was working with a construction truck parked on the east side of Old McHenry Road with yellow flashing lights activated. The truck was a large flatbed with fencing around the edges of the flatbed, and the truck was loaded with signs that were being retrieved.
The Ford F350 truck, driven by a 38-year-old man of Hawthorn Woods, was traveling northbound on Old McHenry Road. The driver of the Ford pickup truck struck the construction truck, pushing it into a ditch. The impact caused a 42 year-old male construction worker, who was standing on the bed of the construction truck, to be thrown from the truck to the ground. The worker sustained serious, possibly critical, injuries, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. No other roadway workers were injured in the crash.
The driver of the Ford was reported uninjured.
The crash investigation is ongoing by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
Charges will be reviewed following the conclusion of the investigation.
