A Mount Prospect woman died after a crash in Des Plaines Saturday morning, December 6, 2025 that involved a head-on crash of a US Postal Service van and a passenger sedan. The USPS van was traveling southbound on Mannheim Road south of Lee Street, but the driver of the postal van crossed the center line into the northbound lanes, crashing into the oncoming sedan.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Des Plaines responded about 10:07 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 to a report of a crash in the block of 1700 Mannheim Road in Des Plaines.
Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately the driver of the sedan died at the hospital.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Laurie Jensen, age 65, was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 after the crash on Mannheim Road. Initially, there was no cause of death reported.
According to the Des Plaines Police Department the crash occurred about 10:07 a.m. in the block of 1700 Mannheim Road. The preliminary investigation indicates, Leonard Moore, 48, was driving a 2022 Mercedes-Benz U.S. Postal Service van southbound on Mannheim Road near Bittersweet Court when the van crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a northbound 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by Laurie Jensen, 65, of Mount Prospect.
Des Plaines Police said Moore told investigators he temporarily lost control of the truck and veered across the center line. Leonard Moore was cited for improper lane usage and is due in Cook County Circuit Court January 16, 2025.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
The crash was located on Mannheim Road near Bittersweet Court
There is left turn curve for southbound traffic on Mannheim road, which is near the intersection with Lee Street. Then there is another curve that is a right turn curve for southbound traffic near Bittersweet Court. Possibly, the driver of the USPS truck failed to stay in his curved lane, and drove on a straighter path into the northbound lanes(s).
Mannheim Road is four lanes (two lanes in each direction). There is a stoplight at the intersection of Mannheim Road and Lee Street. The Speed Limit on Mannheim Road is 25 MPH according to Google Maps Street View images captured September 2024.
