The crash remains under investigation. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting the Buffalo Grove Police Department with the investigation. Initially, there was no indication released describing how the woman was crossing Arlington Heights Road.

Observation of the MCAT investigators indicated that the woman was struck in the southbound left lane of Arlington Heights Road, just south of the Plaza Verde shopping center entrance/exit driveway. A slipper-like shoe and possibly a handbag with a Pace Bus pass were located a little further south. The license plate of the Honda Fit was dislodged by the force of the crash, and there was a large piece of wheel well debris from one of the vehicles in the roadway. The dark colored wheel well debris was initially mistaken as a downed motorcycle by an eyewitness of the aftermath of the crash.

Also, the Honda Fit apparently was leaking a significant amount of fluid as the driver turned from Arlington Heights Road into the alley driveway behind the Plaza Verde strip mall … indicating damage to the bottom of the Honda Fit.

The Speed Limit on Arlington Heights Road near the scene of the crash is 40 MPH. Apparently, both vehicles involved in the crash were southbound on Arlington Heights Road when the crash occurred. Arlington Heights Road is a four-lane arterial roadway with a dedicated left turn lane for southbound Arlington Heights Road to eastbound Boeger Driver in Arlington Heights; and a dedicated left turn lane for northbound Arlington Heights to the westbound boulevard entrance into the Plaza Verde shopping center in Buffalo Grove. A curbed, grass median separates the eastbound entrance from the westbound exit of the Plaza Verde driveway. With the dedicated left turn lanes there are a total of five lanes to cross Arlington Heights Road at the intersection. There is no marked crosswalk across Arlington Heights, and there is no marked crosswalk across the Plaza Verde driveway. There is a marked cross walk across Boeger Drive in Arlington Heights on the east side of the intersection.
