A male resident of Addison was safely taken into custody after shooting at police from inside a house on La Porte Drive near Myrick Avenue Thursday, October 30, 2025.
According to the Addison Police Department, at approximately 10:56 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025, a 911 call was received at the Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center; and a male subject informed dispatchers that he needed police to find his dogs in the block of 200 East La Porte Drive. He added that if police officers did not help him find his dogs, he would find people to do the police officer’s job for them. The subject then hung up the phone, and dispatch attempted to call back but no contact could be made.
While officers were en route, other calls were received to the dispatch center from residents saying there was a male/white subject holding a bag, blocking the street with a white SUV, and spraying an unknown substance around the street. Information was also reported to the dispatch center that the individual was lighting items on fire in the middle of the street.
At approximately 11:01 a.m., the first officers arrived on scene, the suspect attacked police officers with an unknown liquid and unknown gas. Then shortly after police officers arrived, the subject go back inside the house. At Police officers then began taking gunfire from the subject inside the house, and officers took cover in the area. There were random attacks of multiple gunshots for a duration of about four hours.
Police officers from surrounding jurisdictions were called to the scene to assist Addison police officer. The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) SWAT team and the DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response & Investigations Team (MERIT) Task Force were also assigned to the scene.
The suspect came outside and surrendered to police, and was taken into custody about 3:15 p.m. A flag on a flagpole located in the front yard was blurred out in WGN’s helicopter video. There were two blue-and-white flags in the front yard. There was also some type of printed sign near the front door, and something spray-painted in blue on the white front storm door.

Initially, there were no reports of injuries or casualties to any civilians.
One police officer’s ballistic vest was hit by gunfire.
Some police personnel were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
The public was asked to stay away from the area due to the continued active crime scene being processed by police.
Immediate neighbors were asked to remain indoors and shelter in place as a precaution.
Addison Trail High School was placed in a “Secure” environment mode as a precaution. Students and staff were declared safe, and according to the Addison Police Department, the incident was not directly related to any school district.

The Addison Police Department did not initially indicate the identity of the shooter, or any charges with the arrest.
