An Illinois state representative lawmaker and a United States representative lawmaker are digging in to find out the circumstances regarding a viral video that was captured on Friday, October 10, 2025 in Hoffman Estates. The video appears to show U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining a young woman in a neighborhood of single-family homes in Hoffman Estates, just southwest of Bode Road and Roselle Road. The neighborhood is located in southeast Hoffman Estates near Schaumburg. She was apparently accused of capturing video and warning people about ICE presence in a neighborhood in Hoffman Estates.

Raja Krishnamoorthi, posting on X, shared the video, and said that he was deeply disturbed.

“This is in our backyard. Hoffman Estates. My district.

I am deeply disturbed by what looks like ICE agents violently detaining a child. A child. She could be yours just as she could be mine.

My team and I are looking into this, but please don’t look away. This is what Donald Trump is doing to our communities — and it’s exactly why I’ve called to subpoena Kristi Noem to appear before the House Oversight Committee. I demand answers on this now.”

The video, captured from the window of a house at a T-intersection at Morton Street and Glendale Lane on Friday, Oct. 10, shows a Hoffman Estates Police Department marked SUV pull away on Morton Street, and stop in front of the next-door property, while at least four unmarked law enforcement vehicles with sirens activated, head eastbound on Glendale Lane. They are following a silver Dodge sedan up a driveway of a property on Morton Street. Next, law enforcement officers pull out a female passenger from the passenger side of the sedan. The female was placed face down in the front lawn next to the driveway. Later, she was transferred into one of the law enforcement vehicles. She is heard yelling, “I’m not resisting!” The driver is also detained. A male is also detained after he approaches the scene on foot from the right side of the video, walking southbound on Morton Street.

Another video shows ICE agents in the parking lot of the Hoffman Estates Police Department, where a crowd, including Illinois Rep. Fred Crespo and his attorney daughter Jennifer Crespo gathered. ERO, visible on bullet proof vests, stands for Enforcement and Removal Operations.

Hoffman Estates Police Chief Kasia Cawley is also visible in a second video of the Hoffman Estates Police Department parking lot speaking with the ICE agent that pulled the female out of the silver Dodge.

ICE officers left the police station without the young woman that was pulled from the silver Dodge, but took another detainee with them. The narrator of the second video says that the woman detained by ICE is her niece and is a United States citizen. The narrator said her niece’s boyfriend, who is also a United States citizen was also detained. She said Jonathan was taken away. Both had been handcuffed.

Hoffman Estates Fire Department paramedics were also assigned to the scene, apparently to evaluate the female that was taken down to the ground by ICE.

Hoffman Estates Police Department posted a statement on the Village of Hoffman Estates Facebook page the same day on October 10, 2025.

“This afternoon, we were made aware of federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) present in the public parking lot of the police department. Two ICE agents also came into the police department to make a police report regarding an incident that occurred while in our Village.

In accordance with the Illinois Trust Act (enacted in 2017), our police officers do not participate in or assist with immigration enforcement. While the police department lobby and its parking lot are public spaces where federal agents are permitted to be, local law enforcement does not take part in these actions.

We want to assure all residents that the Hoffman Estates Police Department is committed to the safety and well-being of everyone in our community. We understand that many residents feel unsettled and anxious. We also know that there are several videos appearing on social media regarding today’s events. We ask that instead of making assumptions that if you have questions about today’s events, that you contact the chief of police. We also have support available through our Police Social Workers Division and the Village’s Health and Human Services Department for residents who are seeking assistance.”

The niece had been recording ICE’s presence in the Hoffman Estates area, according to the narrator of the second video. According to CBS News Chicago, the niece’s name is Evelyn, and Evelyn’s parents said that Evelyn and her boyfriend went to warn people who live there and recorded the officers, after they received a call that ICE agents were in the neighborhood.

Regarding the video capturing the Hoffman Estates marked police SUV’s presence at Glendale Lane and Morton Street, Hoffman Estates Police Chief Kasia Cawley told PolitiFact she was aware of an “arrest that ICE made on Friday,” which was October 10, 2025, but her officers were in the same area for a different reason, according to PolitiFact. Initially, it is unknown if the phone camera operator the house, or the property where the traffic stop ended, were connected in any way to any of the people in the silver Dodge.
