The man who was missing and died after a boat crash has been identified as 51-year-old Larry Suchowski of Gurnee. On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results show that Mr. Suchowski died from drowning as a result of the incident.

The search for Larry Suchowski began immediately after another victim was rescued after the boat crash. Suchowski was not found Monday night, but the search resumed Tuesday morning, October 7, 2025, and Larry Suchowski’s body was discovered and recovered beginning at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The fatal boating incident is under investigation by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and divers responded after a high-speed boat crash injured one man and killed another man, who was presumed dead while missing underwater overnight Monday, October 6, 2025. A water search for the missing man was underway after the two men were ejected from their boat into the Fox Lake straight out in the waters near Captain’s Quarters, 38283 North Bolton Place in unincorporated Antioch, Monday evening.

Firefighter/divers and SONAR technicians searched for the missing victim near the location where where he was last seen north of a white boat when it was confirmed at about 5:45 p.m. that a man was missing. People on the scene told firefighters that two people were reported to be in the water following the boat crash involving just one boat. An injured victim who was located immediately. He was rescued from the water by a civilian in a boat before rescue personnel arrived. Firefighter/paramedics transported him to shore. The man was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

When firefighters confirmed that a second man went under water and never resurfaced, the fire department commanding officer activated a MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm for a water rescue on Box #21-69 about 6:17 PM. Divers, boats, and SONAR assigned from area fire departments and fire districts. Additionally, personnel from the sheriff’s office and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are actively searching for the missing person. At 7:00 p.m. Monday, fire command declared the incident had transitioned from a rescue operation to a recovery operation.

Initial investigation indicates the boat operator, whose identity was not initially released, was traveling too fast when it took a turn, resulting in both men being ejected from the vessel. Neither of the men was wearing a life jacket.

The boat involved has been recovered for investigation.

Search crews concentrated efforts where the victim was last seen about 50 yards north of a white boat, and used the GPS coordinates to conduct the search to the best of their ability.

Fire service personnel were released from the scene overnight, but the search was re-activated early Tuesday morning around sunrise.

Initially, information about the type of boat and the type engine on the boat was not available.
