A large fire at a ComEd substation in suburban Hoffman Estates near Elgin and Bartlett early Wednesday morning (CapturedNews/CBS Chicago). YouTube Tips ⓘ

Firefighters and paramedics from Bartlett and Hoffman Estates responded just before 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025 to a report of a fire at a ComEd substation at 6220 Shoe Factory Road in Hoffman Estates. Fire command reported a substantial fire involving the ComEd substation that is just south of Interstate 90 and just west of the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. Flames were reported to be 30 to 40 feet high, and visible from motorists passing by on Interstate 90.

Illinois State Police were also notified.

Firefighters from Bartlett Fire Protection District also responded to the fire scene, and stood by until ComEd responded to the scene. Initially it was unknown whether ComEd extinguished the fire, or whether firefighters extinguished the fire. Firefighters stood by and monitored the fire until ComEd arrived.

The ComEd Outage Map did not indicate any power outages in the area.
