Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators are investigating an early morning fatal head-on traffic crash that occurred in Ingleside.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 to Route 134 (Long Lake Road) east of North Catherine Street for a head-on traffic crash. The 911 caller was involved in the crash and said he needed an ambulance. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located two vehicles with heavy damage.
A preliminary investigation shows a Honda sedan, driven by a male whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was traveling westbound on Route 134. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Honda veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic and struck head-on an eastbound GMC work truck, driven by a 44-year-old man of Johnsburg. The driver of the Honda sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Apparently, the driver of the Honda had an open bottle of whiskey in his lap while driving.
The driver of the GMC was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Honda was reported stolen yesterday from a gym in Fox Lake.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on the driver of the Honda is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
