Passenger Dies in Car that Was Hit By an Oncoming Car Driven Across the Double Yellow Line on Fairfield Rd in Hawthorn Woods

Hawthorn Woods police officers and firefighters and paramedics from the Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury two vehicle crash on North Fairfield Road near Holmes Avenue in Hawthorn Woods. Police officers arrived and discovered two vehicles — a 2007 Honda Accord and a 2014 Honda CR-V with heavy damage.

A passenger in the Honda Accord, a 28-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were treated and transported to area hospitals.

The deceased passenger was identified as 28-year-old AnnMarie Macias-Lauritzen, of Round Lake Beach. On Monday, August 11, 2025, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Ms. Macias-Lauritzen died from blunt force injuries of the head and neck as a result of the crash.

Based on the seriousness of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was called to assist with the investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the 2014 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on North Fairfield Road, and crossed the double yellow line, and then struck the 2007 Honda Accord, which was northbound on North Fairfield Road.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.

The crash investigation by The Hawthorn Woods Police Department and MCAT is continuing after the on-scene investigation.
