Identity Released of Boy Hit and Killed in Vehicle, Pedestrian Accident on US-30, Montgomery

The Montgomery Police Department on Monday, August 4, 2025, confirmed the death of a 10-year-old resident on Route 30 in a vehicle – pedestrian crash that occurred on Thursday night, July 31, 2025.

In a tragic incident on Thursday, July 31, 2025, a vehicle struck a juvenile pedestrian about 7:57 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025 near Route 30 and Horseman Trail. The initial call was reported as a patient with cardiac arrest, but while en route, KenCom advised Montgomery police officers of a reported vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.




Upon arriving at the scene and determining the severity of the accident, the Montgomery Police Department and assisting agencies closed Route 30 in both directions between Orchard Road and Horseman Trail for several hours for rescue and an extended crash investigation.

The initial investigation indicates a driver and vehicle were traveling westbound on Route 30, and struck the juvenile who was crossing the street walking northbound from a local business in the block of 1900 Baseline.

US-30 is a two-lane rural highway (one lane in each direction) with gravel shoulder. The Speed Limit is 50 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured July 2024.

Baseline Road runs approximately parallel to US-30 and is just south of US-30.

The juvenile was was transported to Level II Trauma Center Rush Copley Hospital, and was identified as Vincente Poban, age 10, Montgomery, Illinois. Shortly after arrival, medics airlifted the boy to Level 1 Trauma Center Loyola Medical Center, where was listed in critical condition. Vincente Poban succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of August 2, 2025.

The Montgomery Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Vincente’s family and friends. Additionally, they would like to thank the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART), the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Kane County OEM, and the first responders of the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District for their swift response and assistance.

The Montgomery Police Department would like to take a moment to remind residents and community members of the importance of vehicle and pedestrian safety. It is essential, regardless of your age, to always be aware of your surroundings, use crosswalks, look both ways, and exercise caution when walking at any time of day, but especially in the evening.
