The Schaumburg Police responded about 10:15 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2025 to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg hotel, 50 North Martingale Road in Schaumburg. Police officers located one gunshot victim, identified as, Christine Moyer, 45 years old, of Galena Ohio, outside near the front entrance to the hotel. She sustained one gunshot wound to the head, and medical aid was rendered at the scene. Christine Moyer was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The offender was being subdued on the ground by a citizen and turned over to police custody. The offender, identified as Roland Schmidt, of Stillman Valley Illinois, was transported to the Schaumburg Police Department for investigation. The firearm was recovered from the scene and secured.
During the investigation, detectives determined both the victim and offender were attending a wedding at the hotel. The victim, Christine Moyer, and offender Roland Schmidt are related. Moyer is the daughter-in-law of Schmidt. The shooting occurred when Moyer was leaving the event and Schmidt followed her outside. Schmidt approached Moyer and shot her in the head. Through the investigation, it was discovered, Schmidt was upset with Moyer over divorce paperwork which was filed against his son.
Detectives conducted a thorough investigation of the case. After reviewing all the facts of the investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony charge against Roland Schmidt. He was charged and will appear at a detention hearing at the Circuit Court of Cook County Third Municipal District, Rolling Meadows Court House, on July 28, 2025.




INITIAL REPORT …
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Schaumburg responded about 10:14 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025 to a report of a shooting near the drop off and pickup driveway in front of the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg, 50 North Martingale Road in Schaumburg. A 9-1-1 call indicated that a woman was shot in the eye, and that a physician was on scene indicating that the woman was deceased at the scene. A witness told CARDINAL NEWS that a male appeared to take down the offender to the ground before police arrived. A gun was also recovered by police. Fire radio communications also indicated that firefighters and paramedics were advised that the shooter was detained by police officers, and that the scene was secure to move up to treat the gunshot victim.
Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived to find a woman shot and down on the ground, unresponsive on the north side of the circle driveway to the hotel lobby. The gunshot victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she was pronounced dead.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, a 45 year-old female of Galena, Ohio was pronounced deceased at 11:04 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025.
The victim’s identity was released as Christine Moyer, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office.
An evidence tent was set up on the north side of the lobby drive; and police and forensics investigators were on the scene past 1:00 a.m. Saturday taking photos and gathering evidence. Hotel guests were allowed in an out of the hotel at alternate entrances and exits as a police yellow crime scene tape perimeter sealed off the area outside the front lobby.
There were business guests arriving and leaving the hotel, and a wedding was also held at the hotel at the time of the shooting.
Initially, there were no official alerts to the public from the Village of Schaumburg that anything unusual was happening at the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg Friday night.
