Arlington Heights firefighters responded about 3:16 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025 to a report of a tree branch that downed power lines at Douglas Avenue and Fremont Street in Arlington Heights. There was no arcing or fire visible at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters inspected the area for hazards. Two ComEd crews arrived and began work to isolate the power issue to reduce the number of customers without power, and then repair the power lines.

ComEd reported that an issue occurred in the area at 2:51 a.m.

A widespread power outage was reported to have occurred at 2:51 a.m. by the ComEd grid monitoring system.

There was a Tornado Watch Friday night until 11:00 p.m., but storms fizzled as they crossed northern Illinois. A north wind weakened thunderstorm cells as they approached Lake Michigan. In Arlington Heights and at Chicago Executive Airport winds shifted from the East to the Northeast and Northwest by 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The air temperature also dropped 7°F between 5:52 p.m. and 6:52 p.m. — dropping from 84°F to 77°F.

The NWS at O’Hare reported a similar drop 13°F from 8:51 p.m. to 9:51 p.m. — dropping from 84.9°F to 72°F.

There were some wind gusts about 8:50 p.m., but winds were mostly 10 MPH or less overnight from the north, northeast, east and southeast.
