St. Charles Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance about 12:58 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2025 to a report that a male subject was heard yelling for help in the block of 3800 Chesapeake Road in St. Charles. Upon their arrival, police officers located a male victim who was bleeding significantly from a wound to one of his arms. A police officer applied a tourniquet to the victim, and requested St. Charles Fire Department paramedics respond to the scene.

The injured victim was identified as 34-year-old Salvatore Labarbera, of Schiller Park, according to the St. Charles Police Department. Labarbera told police that he was inside his friend’s home in the block of 3800 Chesapeake Road, when his friend allegedly stabbed him.

The offender was identified as 34-year-old Stephen J. Perdue of St. Charles.

Police officers on scene viewed Perdue inside of the residence, and attempted to make contact with him. However, Stephen Perdue did not respond to police officers’ attempts to communicate. Due to the nature of the allegations, the Kane County SWAT Team was requested to the scene. After a search warrant was obtained, SWAT team members entered the residence and safely took Perdue into custody without further incident.

The crime scene and Kane County SWAT Team response scene was located in a neighborhood of large single-family homes on Chesapeake Road just south of Red Gate Road, just west of St. Charles North High School on the north side of St. Charles.

Upon completion of the investigation, the following charges were authorized against Stephen Perdue by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office …

Armed Violence – 720 ILCS 5/33A-2(a) – Class X

Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon – 720 ILCS 5/12-3.05 (f)(1) – Class 3

Aggravated Battery / Great Bodily Harm – 720 ILCS 5/12-3.05(a)(1) – Class 3

These charges against Perdue are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. All Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
