The Arlington Heights Police Department has announced that charges have been filed against the former owner and operator of an Arlington Heights bridal shop. The store was formerly located at the southwest corner of Miner Street and Evergreen Avenue in downtown Arlington Heights. The charges follow an investigation of a theft by deceptive practice case.

The Arlington Heights Police Department initiated a Deceptive Practice investigation after receiving a complaint that a retail bridal shop failed to deliver an ordered wedding gown. Allegedly, Monique Pruitt, then owner of Ava Nicole Bridal Shop, previously located on Miner Street and Evergreen Avenue in Arlington Heights, accepted a $2,310.00 payment for a custom fitted bridal gown on March 1, 2023. The bridal shop communicated that the gown would be delivered in time for a scheduled late summer wedding in 2023.

Customer Donieshia Wade said the owner required the payment be submitted via Zelle.

Prior to the agreed delivery date, it was discovered Pruitt vacated her Arlington Heights store and changed telephone numbers. The retail space has since been occupied by an unrelated business by unrelated ownership.
