VIDEO: Car Crash Into High Pressure Gas Line/Meter at Our Lady of Wayside on Park near West Park Street and South Walnut Avenue in Arlington Heights.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:36 AM Sunday to a car vs building crash at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 434 West Park Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that people were evacuating the charge and that the vehicle was crashed into the back of the church on the west side of the building, and that gas was “spewing” out of the gas line.

Firefighters reported a high pressure gas line was ruptured after previously requesting that NICOR respond to the scene. Firefighters were able to shut off a valve that shut off most of the gas leak down to a trickle. Firefighters also checked levels inside the building — in the sanctuary and in individual rooms in the church building. The highest gas levels were in a room just opposite the wall were the gas line was hit.

NICOR arrived on the scene by 7:35 a.m. and advised firefighters that the scene was secure and that firefighters would not need to standby during repair work by NICOR.

The sedan apparently left the parking lot and drove a half-circle up a courtyard hill and into the wall and gas line on the north side of the sanctuary building.

Paramedics checked on the well-being of the driver. There was no word on any injuries, or what caused the irregular driving.

Mass at 7:00 a.m. was interrupted and canceled. No confirmation available whether Sunday Masses at 8:15 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. were held. There was no answer at the main phone number for Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church because the call was placed after regularly scheduled hours for the Church office. The Church does not appear to have a Facebook page. The school has a Facebook page, but there is no mention of the incident as of 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
