Crash with Light Pole Kills Driver on Forest Preserve Drive, Harwood Heights

Police from Harwood Heights and firefighters from Norwood Park responded about 8:38 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 to a report of a car vs pole crash with injuries and entrapment at 6730 West Forest Preserve Drive in Harwood Heights.

Upon arrival police officers from Harwood Heights located a red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with a driver that suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The vehicle also sustained extensive damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The victim, a male age 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity was not initially released.




Initial assessment of the crash scene indicated the vehicle was traveling westbound on Forest Preserve Drive between Oak Park Avenue and Montrose Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole at 6727 West Forest Preserve Drive, and came to rest in front of 6730 West Forest Preserve Drive.

There were parked cars in the vicinity of the crash, but damage to the vehicles was not confirmed. A fence appeared to be damage at the scene.

The MCAT-STAR team (Major Case Assistance Team-Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team) was assigned to the scene and is continuing to investigate the crash along with the Harwood Heights Police Department.
