Round Lake Beach police officers were dispatched about 5:57 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2022 to Report of a person with a gun in the block of 1300 block of Ridgeway Avenue Round Lake Beach. The witness that called police told dispatchers that a juvenile had a gun in his hand and had pointed it at him.
Upon arrival, Round Lake Beach police officers confronted the juvenile who turned and pointed the firearm at them. One officer drew his gun and then discharged his firearm at the juvenile, but the bullet did not strike the youth. The juvenile was taken into custody without further incident, and no injuries were reported.
The juvenile was transported by paramedics from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for observation, according to Round Lake Beach Police Department.
During the investigation into the shooting, police determined the gun was a replica firearm that looked exactly like a handgun. Round Lake Beach Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident, and the Lake County states Attorney’s office is assisting with the investigation following notification by Round Lake Beach Police Department.
As part of standard operating procedure, the police officer that fired the shot was transported to Northwestern Emergency Medical center in Grayslake for observation. The officer was released.
