On Saturday, October 2, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s Sergeant was in the area of Route 60 and Route 21, Vernon Hills, when he was passed at a high rate of speed by a red Tesla. The sheriff’s sergeant was able to obtain the registration of the vehicle, which registered out of Vernon Hills. Lake County Sheriff’s Telecommunicators contacted Vernon Hills Police Dispatch and learn the vehicle had just been stolen.

The driver of the vehicle continued at an extremely high rate of speed, however, the vehicle was located a short time later disabled, in the area of Route 41 and Route 176, unincorporated Lake Bluff. Lake Bluff Police Officers saw two males run west from the Tesla into a wooded area. Lake Bluff Officers then established a perimeter and Sheriff’s Canine Dax and other sheriff’s deputies responded.

Sheriff’s Canine Dax began an immediate track and located a 17-year-old male, who ran away from Dax, directly to a waiting Lake Bluff Police Officer, who took him into custody. A short time later, a second 17-year-old was located hiding by Canine Dax in the wooded area. He too was taken into custody. Both juveniles reside in Grayslake.

Both 17-year-olds were turned over to Vernon Hills Police, so they could further their investigation.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
