Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Wauconda Fire District firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 to a report of a traffic crash with injuries on Kelsey Road north of Flint Creek Drive, Lake Barrington. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and discovered two vehicles with extensive damage with at one woman unresponsive and trapped in a vehicle.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to free the 30-year-old female driver from a Nissan Altima in an effort to give her aid, but were unsuccessful. Wauconda Fire District firefighter/paramedics extricated her from her vehicle, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was transported by Wauconda Fire District paramedics to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in unincorporated Barrington. The two drivers were the only people involved in the crash.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary investigation shows that the 2004 Nissan Altima, driven by the 30-year-old female of Algonquin, was traveling southbound on Kelsey Road just north of Flint Creek Drive. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Nissan left the roadway and drove into a ditch on the west side of the road. The Nissan struck a tree, causing the Nissan to roll onto its roof, and flip back in the roadway. The Nissan was then struck by a southbound 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by a 39-year-old male of Fox River Grove.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and an autopsy is scheduled on the driver of the Nissan.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. There is a curve on Kelsey Road in the area of the crash, and the Speed Limit is 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View captured May 2019. The Flint Creek bridge is also located in the area of the crash.
