Vehicle Fire on Northbound Route 53 Spur Shuts Down Northbound Lanes for 50 Minutes

Illinois State Police and firefighter/paramedics from Long Grove and Palatine responded about 7:10 a.m. Sunday January 12, 2020 to a report of a vehicle fire in the northbound lanes of Route 53 between Dundee Road and Lake Cook Road. One call incorrectly placed the location as far south as Palatine Road.

A large smoke header was visible from the scene about two-thirds the distance on the spur from Dundee Road to Lake Cook Road.

The northbound Route 53 spur was completely shut down during fire operations and clean up. The expressway was re-opened by about 8:00 a.m.

No known injuries.
