Des Plaines Driver Charged with DUI, Leaving the Scene of Crash at Palatine Rd and Arlington Heights Rd

Arlington Heights police arrested a suspected DUI driver at about 12:03 a.m. Saturday January 4, 2020 after a crash at Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road Arlington Heights, IL that occurred before midnight Friday/Saturday. Police received a report of a hit-and-run crash and located the suspected offender in a Toyota Camry in the westbound lanes of Oakton Street, just east of Dunton Avenue. The offending driver’s vehicle, a Toyota Camry, apparently became disabled from the front-end damage with the engine and or radiator leaking fluid(s). The intersection of Oakton Street and Dunton Avenue is about one mile south of the original crash scene.

Arlington Heights police identified the driver as Carrie Ann Vergil, age 47, of Webster Lane in Des Plaines. Police arrested Vergil and transported her in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters, suspected of DUI. The address location was reported at the block of 1000 North Dunton Avenue.

Vergil’s Toyota Camry — with front-end damage — was towed to a police holding area from the scene at Oakton Street and Dunton Avenue. The crash victim’s vehicle was also towed from the scene at Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road. The victim’s vehicle was a 2019 or 2020 Chevrolet Blazer.

No injuries were initially reported.

A traffic signal with a Left Turn Lane sign was also knocked down during the crash at Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road.

Vergil, released on bond, is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Rolling Meadows on Thursday, January 30, 2020.
