Wauconda Fire Protection District firefighters and Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded about 4:46 a.m. Friday November 29, 2019 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1100 Oak Hill Road in Lake Barrington Shores — a gated condominium community.

Upon arrival firefighters discovered everyone was out of the townhouse, but a woman was suffering burn injuries. Heavy smoke was coming from a second floor bedroom. Firefighters searched the home for additional victims as a precaution, and paramedics initiated treatment for the woman, who was identified as Judith Forsythe, age 77. With one line on the fire, firefighters extinguished the fire by 5:25 a.m.

Barrington firefighter/paramedics transported Judith Forsythe to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she was listed in critical condition. Forsythe was transferred later Friday morning to the Loyola Medicine Burn Center, where she was pronounced dead about 3:50 p.m. Friday.

A family dog was rescued and treated by firefighters with administration of oxygen. A family member transported the dog to a veterinarian’s office.

An investigation of the cause of the fire is underway, but initially the fire did not appear to be suspicious. Damage was initially estimated at $125,000.

Firefighters and paramedics from Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Countryside, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, and Nunda Township were immediately dispatched to assist Wauconda FPD firefighters.
