The main objective of the mission was to capture or kill Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. President Donald J. — President Donald Trump

Fifty to seventy military personnel arrived in the middle of the night to al-Baghdadi’s compound aboard eight helicopters. Air support was also available at higher altitudes. He is believed to have been discovered a few miles inside the border with Turkey on a notorious human-smuggling route.

Delta Force and 75th Regiment Army Rangers were involved in the mission, according to media sources. However, Trump did not confirm the specific military forces that were involved in the mission. He only said many in top positions.

Prior to President Donald J. Trump’s announcement, US Army officials said that a firefight ensued when the US military closed in on al-Baghdadi’s hideout in Idlib province. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi detonated a suicide bomb belt that killed himself, two wives and three children. Six other people were injured and several others were injured. Several ISIS fighters were taken into custody.

The Islamic leader was rarely mentioned or seen in public the past several years. The elusive terrorist made his last public appearance in July 2014.

The targeting of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was a top security objective of Trump’s administration. Trump said when he first came to his office he asked Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The successful operation began about two weeks ago.

He didn’t die a hero; he died a coward.

— President Donald Trump

Trump described that he watched the operation in the Situation Room. He said Russia opened up air space to cooperate with the mission, but Russian leaders did not know exactly where the operation was located, and did not know the objective of the mission. The liftoff started moments after Trump arrived in the Situation Room about 5:00 p.m. Saturday October 26, 2019. He described the mission as flawless.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died after running into a dead-end tunnel. He dragged three children with him down the end of the tunnel and ignited his suicide vest, killing himself and the three children. Trump described Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as a coward that was screaming, crying and whimpering before his death.

The tunnel collapse on him and the three children, but he was positively identified with facial recognition and an onsite DNA test by a lab technician.

No US military personnel were lost, but a K-9 was injured while going into the tunnel.

Eleven young children were moved out of the house, and were uninjured.

Highly sensitive material and information, origins, plans were obtained at the compound.

Our reach is very long.

Trump thanked Russia, Turkey, Syria and Iraq and the Syrian Kurds were thanked for their cooperation as US military were involved in the operation. Only US military and intelligence personnel participated in the operation.

Describing the great competence of the US military, Trump also thanked troops, pilots, sailors, and Joint Chief of Staffs.
