A Hyundai Glovis car carrier capsized off the coast of Georgia, United States; four South Koreans missing (Arirang News, South Korea).

US Coast Guard rescuers drilled a hole through the hull of the capsized Golden Ray on Monday September 9, 20-19 after hearing noises inside the overturned ship. Shortly after drilling through the hull, the US Coast Guard confirmed that the crew members are alive.

UPDATE: Three crew members rescued; one still trapped.

The 656-foot Golden Ray’s crew informed the US Coast Guard that the vessel was listing about 2 a.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019. By evening, the cargo ship was turned on its side in St. Simons Sound off the coast of Georgia.

Rescuers worked to stabilize the ship so they could conduct rescue operations, but were interrupted when a fire started the ship, according to Capt. John Reed, commander of the Coast Guard Sector Charleston.

Crews from the Coast Guard and other agencies rescued 20 of the 24 people on board — 23 crew members and one pilot. Four crew members — South Korean nationals — remained on the ship, and were heard making noise in the ship on Monday morning.

According to MarineTraffic.com (:Golden Ray), the Golden Ray had departed the Port of Brunswick in Georgia and was headed for Baltimore. According to Arirang TV news, the Golden Ray — a Hyundai Glovis-managed vehicle carrier — was carrying 4200 vehicles.
