Aidan Beckford’s body was found by a volunteer’s dog about 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon September 7, 2019 in Nunda Township after a week of searching for the missing 18-year-old missing Huntley man. Beckford was last seen when he exited a vehicle, without shoes, about 9:30 p.m. August 30, 2019 near Nish Road and Highview Drive in Nunda Township. Beckford reportedly was only wearing shorts and t-shirt — apparently with no money or cell phone — when he disappeared.
Beckford’s body was found in the area of Nish Road and Highview, according to a joint news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Coroner, but the exact location and additional details on the discovery were not released. Nunda Rural Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to the scene to recover the body, which later was identified as Beckford. An autopsy is scheduled Monday, September 9, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are calling it an open investigation.
Beckford’s family and friends, law enforcement and volunteers had searched for Aidan Beckford continuously during the previous week. Beckford’s family and volunteers searched the surrounding area about 9 a.m. Saturday, staging at the parking lot of nearby Kief’s Reef.
During Saturday’s search, volunteers checked locations not previously checked by law enforcement. Several drones were deployed by volunteers. Green ribbons — symbolizing missing children and mental health — were displayed in the area as a reminder of the search.
Agencies involved in a major search Wednesday September 4, 2019, included Boone County Search and Rescue, Illinois Search and Rescue, Illinois-Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs, Kendall County Search and Rescue, MABAS Divisions 4 and 5 SONAR Teams, Maine Township Search and Rescue, McHenry County Emergency Management Agency, New Lenox Search and Rescue, North Aurora Police Department, and Palatine Search and Rescue. Police department K-9 nuts from Bannockburn, Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Gurnee, Hanover Park, Mundelein, Prairie Grove, and Wauconda also participated in the search.
