Arlington Heights police responded about 12:45 p.m. Saturday August 10, 2019 to a report of an armed robbery at the Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 4204 North Arlington Heights Road, just south of Lake Cook Road.

Police received a report that a lone masked offender walked into the Dunkin’ Donuts, displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. The clerk complied and was not physically harmed. The offender left on foot, and a call was placed to 911 reporting a robbery.

A quick suspect description was compiled and immediately broadcast to area patrol units on the Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove shared radio talk group. Arlington Heights police officers were immediately assisted by officers from Buffalo Grove Police Department.

Both police departments also patrol the concurrent jurisdiction at Lake Cook and Arlington Heights Roads where Arlington Heights borders Buffalo Grove. An alert BG officer spotted a suspicious male lift a bicycle over a residential fence just west of the crime scene. The officer approached to conduct a field inquiry. This individual, who matched the suspect description, abruptly abandoned his bike and began to flee into the residential neighborhood. A short foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was detained by Buffalo Grove officers.

Arlington Heights Police Department K-9 Yara, who was seen at the Clinton executive protection detail with the US Secret Service, Illinois State Police and Cook County Sheriff’s Police was dispatched to the robbery call and deployed in the area to search for the discarded handgun.

“A quick and collaborative police response led to the arrest and charging of a violent offender. AHPD greatly appreciates the assistance rendered by Buffalo Grove officers which resulted in the swift apprehension of this criminal.”
